The 1st Forum for Hispanic People with Disabilities
Disability is part of diversity"
The forum, held on Saturday, December 5th 2009, showcased the reality, needs and contribution of people with disabilities. Various local and national organizations provided valuable and practical information to the community through workshops and displays. We were privileged to have the presence of The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and Mrs. Onley. His Honour delivered an impassioned speech about the importance of envisioning a person beyond their disability as this should not be what defines them. We were also joined by Councillor Adam Giambrone, Chair of the TTC, who spoke about the future strategy of the organization and how it is adapting to the growing needs of people with disabilities. In his closing remarks, Councillor Joe Mihevc, Ward 21, encouraged the community to become active and involved citizens and be the change they want to see in Toronto.
